Horror Vacui

Joker

Fear of the void. The horror from beyond—what lies outside the deck's order.

Horror vacui — fear of the void. The first Joker emerges from outside the deck’s ordered universe, a reminder that structure has edges.

Paradin’s emblem book contained images meant to disturb as well as instruct. This horror from beyond refuses categorization by suit or rank. It belongs nowhere, which means it can appear anywhere.

The Joker witnesses what the numbered cards prefer to ignore: that the game has rules because chaos waits outside them.
