A bird rests upon the knight’s hand — fide et amore, by faith and love. The wild creature trusts the one who has earned trust through gentleness.

The Jack of Birds has not captured his companion but befriended it. This is falconry’s secret: the hawk that returns does so by choice, honoring a bond more powerful than jesses.

Youth in this suit learns that transcendence cannot be forced. The soul’s flight requires invitation, not compulsion.
